Welcome to The Readthrough!
This is a place for people who love to read plays. Read plays? Plays are meant to be seen! Performed! They only exist in the moment! Great if you’re there in the moment. If you’re three hundred miles away with a current account that you prefer not to look too closely at, then what?
Read the play.
Reading plays is a valid approach to theatre and a fun way to explore several thousand years of human creativity and expression. Is reading a play like looking at the score of a symphony? Hell no. When I look at a music score I see squiggles and lines. I’m not Mozart. But I don’t have to be Shakespeare to read a play and see and hear the story in my head. If I don’t do that, 99% of theatre is going to be out of reach.
So here’s where I think about, write about, take pretty pictures of – plays. Classics, new writing, neglected voices. There’s a whole world of theatre out there on the page. Let’s read through it.
